    Hello,

I'm building a circuit to amplify 5V to 12V using a field effect transistor.

The section of the book is still pending, my question is: which kind of FET shall I use and in what configuration. Please include any useful equations.

    Thanks in advance

Your information about your design is not enough as to be able to select the appropriate circuit. Give more information, about input voltage, power supply voltage, power requirements etc.

    Ok sorry.
The supply voltage Vdd = 12V
    Input voltage = 5V,
    I want the output Vo = 12V
I need the output to drive a 12V solenoid valve

It's a digital input signal so i need it to switch off when it is 0V and on at 5V (which should be amplified to 12V)

    Thanks

You can use a logic level n-channel MOSFET.

Connect its source to ground and its gate to the 5V signal. Connect the load between 12V and drain. Also, use a diode in anti-parallel with the actuator to protect the MOSFET from spikes.
