Will this work? We Have a lot of smoke coming east from forestfires in Arizona. If I put an electret type furnace filter on a cutout on one side of the right size cardboard box, and mount a bunch of fans blowing into the box, can I get it to filter out smoke particles in an enclosed space?

Not likely. What you need is an electrostatic filter that sells for about $700, and even at that quality, it will not do a perfect job.

I did an experiment once when I installed an electrostatic filter in a central air conditioner. It worked very well. It even removed odors from the house! But when I made the customer wait in another room and blew cigarette smoke directly into the filter, he smelled it when it came through the air conditioning ducts.

Even a $700 filter is not perfect.
