Have a Electric Mobility Scooter rascal model 600F. Got used from estate sale. Put in new batteries and charged as indicated. Turn on to use and the status light blinks 5 times indicating brake problem according to owners manual. Brake has but 2 positions stop and go. In the go position the brake switch is activated but it wont go. Any ideas?

I agree with R!f@@, those usually have electro-mechanical brakes which disengage when powered up....... if you remove the motors cap on the end of it, you will see this device, and be able to visibly see if they even actuate when powered...... could be just a matter of cleaning the contacts on the 4 wire connectors coming from each motor, which just plugs into the controller.... if my assumptions are correct (thats if the manufacturer has not change the color coding) each connector coming from each motor will have 4 connections, 2 that are black, and 2 that are white, the 2 white ones are for the motor, the 2 black are for the brake, if you connect atleast 12 volts across both black connections, you should hear the solenoid of the brake engage (you may hear it click if it still works.)

Iwill dig into it again tomorrow. It appears that the brake is mechanically activated by a foot lever,Iwill see what shows up.
Thanks

The scooter has only one motor mounted to a gearbox. Removed brake mechanism and all seemed to move freely. Red and black go to motor,2 black go to brake and brown ,yellow and black goes to switch on brake. Can detect no sound of brake release, can hear switch activate when lever is positioned but still no go. Any ideas??
Thanks

So you've confirmed that the brake is not releasing but you're still confused.... about what?

I just worked on one of these last month and the problem was that the brake was not releasing. The brake makes a fairly loud "click" noise when it releases; it is especially loud if the end cap is removed. If you don't hear it, then it didn't release, hence the "no go".

The scooter is telling you that your electronic break is out of range. The brake is stuck in the locked position. When you press the throttle you should hear it disengage prior to the scooter moving. This is roughly a $125 repair by an honest technician. Sounds like it got rusted pretty bad and now is just frozen or stuck. Rascal is a great machine unfortunately now its a no go. Wish you luck on your repairs. I am quite knowledgeable of mobility scooter, so please feel free to ask any question.
Nice to have you on board. We seem to get scooter questions about once per month. Now we just need an expert in treadmill control boards.
