I was going to drive my Solid State Relay from a printer port, but I'm limited to working with an XP system, and XP doesn't like to give direct access to the printer ports.

What about driving an SSR through a Serial Port in an XP system? (I'm controlling a bell.) I assume there's something on a serial port which can be directly controlled from software. Is there any handshaking to do?

    I meant a 9-pin Serial Port.

The USB module was just an alternative for the serial port, if you could get it to work. :)

XP has nothing to do with it. Use any language that gives low-level hardware access.
