DIY- Sound Volume Equaliser

    Howist,

    I was just thinking of a project that i would like to try and build, depending on how easy it is.

    I want to say make a line of 20 LEDS and the light them up according to the sound input.
    each led would light up according to a voltage or the "loudness of a speaker"

    So almost make a led sound display like often found on DJ mixers?
    I think it is called a VU

    What would my easiest option be?

    Use an LM3915.

    Yes, that is the IC normally used.

    Here is one I built for monitoring the sound output of my amplifier's outputs. It uses a peak detector to see the levels better.
