When I'm walking through a mall and they're playing Justin Bieber, that's noise. When I'm walking through a mall and Justin Bieber is actually there, that's a disturbance.

Could you explain more with a electronic signal and the wave form after and before noise and disturbance?

Noise is random variation in the signal.

White noise has flat frequency content, equal amplitudes at all frequencies. Pink noise amplitude decreases with frequency (1/f).

A disturbance is a temporary deviation from the norm.

When is your homework paper due?

A disturbance can look like ANYTHING, it's a deviation in the signal. Noise is random deviations that keep persisting.

A disturbance is like a transient that decays arbitrarily close to zero in finite time.

Noise has an infinite time span.

In DSP terms an FIR filter will respond to a disturbance and the output will disappear in finite time. An IIR filter will have an output that does not decay to zero with a disturbance on the input.
