I have been working on a project that calls for a Vbr 28volt Ibr 1ma Diac. I cannot seem to locate such a beast. I usually hear "have not seen a Diac in a long time". Is there such a thing as alternative work around/

    How about a zener diode?

    What will be its use?

The diac has a snap-action breakdown characteristic which is different from that of a zener diode. We would really need to know more about the OPs circuit to judge what might work in this application.

@takeitapart: Could you please describe your application, and post a schematic?

That will only work with rectified AC (unfiltered). If your input is from a battery, it won't work, in case you were going to try that route.
