I need to design, construct and test a pulse generator based on avalanche effect in a BJT.
The aim of the project is to design and contruct a pulse generator that is able to produce 10-20V pulses with a rise time of less than 1ns which are suitable for UWB applications. The skills and knowledge acquired will be transferable to a wide range of applications from radar, communications, and trigger elements of X-ray machines.

Have you looked into blocking oscillators? You can get pulse times much shorter than the rise time of the device with this trick.
