Dc motor reversing

Hi folks
this is the best technology forum on the planet.
Does anyone know how of any hardware/device that can used with a two timers to reverse a twelve volt Dc motor automatically .
Most electronics hobbyist know that an alternative is using a DPDT toggle switch but this needs to operated manually.
Does anyone have an idea about how to do this?

If it is a low current motor, under 200 mA loaded, use one 555 for timing & driving a second 555 as invertor. Connect motor, with as much series resistance as possible with given load, between pins 3. Bypass motor with capacitor or diode supressors. Check post by mpcotuong, 9-22-10, chat.

The electronic equivalent of a DPDT switch is called an H-bridge. H-bridges are used quite often to control DC motors. The direction of motor rotation can be controlled with a microcontroller, transistors, or even micro-switches.

How big of a motor are you trying to control? Not all DC motors are easily reversible.

H-Bridge, preferably with a microcontroller or 3 timers, the 3rd being used to wait for the motor to stop so the H-Bridge/motor windings do not burn out from over-current.
