    The primary frequency component is the rate at which the breaks in the comutator rotate past the brushes. This is a function of rpm and how many segements there are on the commutor. This makes a peak and some higher order harmonics...

    Arcing at the brushes generates wide-band noise from dc to daylight. Hence your FFT trace is about what I would expect.
