So for my engineering project, I have to increase the number of inputs by using 2 74HC165N. Is it possible to daisy chain the two together so that why I don't have to read only one serial pin rather than reading 2 of them?

Just connect Qh output to SER input of next device. Use a common clock.

Doesn't that work for serial in parallel out shift register? This is a parallel in serial out register.

It probably works for SIPO. What makes you think it won't work for PISO?

Check your data sheet for the 74HC165N. There is a serial input. So it is a SISO too, is so!

It says so in the datasheet. Also, is it easier to connect QH of one register to one input of the other register since I'll most likely have them running on the same clock signal?
