Crystal Capacitors

    On microcontrollers, when using an external crystal, one uses small capacitors ~20pF across each crystal leg to ground. What are the purpose of these capacitors? Are they absolutely necessary?

    Hello,

    Those capacitors are needed.
    They are called "load capacitors"
