Hey Guys,

I am working in Eagle and I need to create custom parts whose dimensional drawings are not available; mostly integrated circuits. When I search for the datasheets' of clones of different ICs I do find their dimensional drawings'.
May I safely use these specifications since they are clones of the original model?

Does the datasheet for the actual part that you are using have a designation for the component layout, such as TO220, d2-Pak, etc? If so, go on the manufacturer's site and see if they have an application note or similar for the dimensions of their standard packages and layouts for same.

If not, going by the 'clone' layout may be a bumpy ride.

If the package is not an industry standard, you'll really need to ask the manufacturer.

You will find quite a few component layouts in the ref-packages.lbr file. If you find the one you're looking for, you can copy it to the library you're defining the part in.
