I am a hobbyist from way back, and I have decided to kick myself into the present by learning how to program and use CPLD's in my circuits. The price of the tools and software seem reasonable, but since these chips all seem to have pin spacings at less than 0.1 inch, I am concerned about testing them on a breadboard.

Are there some CPLD package types for which there are chip carriers which would fit in a breadboard? If so, where do I find such carriers?

if finding one that suits your needs is cumbersome, i'd say just design one yourself. there are plenty of EDA packages, some are free or free for personal use. export gerbers and order your breakout boards from any pcb shop.
