Could someone suggest an Arduino or other controller?

I was looking at some arduino's for a school project we are working on and I didn't know there were so many different variations.

I'm hoping someone with some experience could guide me in the right direction for what I should be looking for.

We are constructing a bed bug trap and as far as I can tell right now all we will really need is the ability to control 2 motors, in both speed and direction. Possibly as slow as 0.5 RPM, and MAYBE some way to control a valve of some sort to release CO2.

I believe we will be using a 9V battery as the supply.
