Your teacher must have given you some guidelines like which interface you should use. We can not help you if you hold back any important details

Many beginner projects use RS232 communication. If you have accsess to a RS232 port on your computer, so start with this interface. Will you have a microcontroller in your project?

Nowadays it pretty much has to be USB. Serial and parallel ports are just not around much any more.

On newer machines, the older machines they are still standard. However, I understand that XP has a problem interfacing these ports directly, so it is a double whammy, Win98SE and an old computer. The good news is that will set you back around $25.

No sir...My project does not include microcontrollers....

Im only in beginning level(yet to study).....

If it is necessary to use microcontroller for this project, (no problem) i ll manage it by doing xtra homeworks ....

Pls guide this project with and without microcontrollers...which will help me to understand microcontrollers too.......

    Thank u;).....

The absolutely simplest way to do this is with the parallel port if you have one available. You can use Visual Basic to control the Data bus which gives you eight lines that can be used as outputs or inputs. You can also use the Status and Control buses but then you have to makes sure the pins aren't input only or inverted.

You can just run an LED off of the parallel port with no modifications but you may need to switch a higher current supply to run your fan.
