My team have successfully built the clap switch circuit. But my part was to amplify it so it is more sensitive. So it will be more practical to use daily. My lecturer says something about making some kind of a receiver for the microphone sensor. Any idea how can I accomplish this.

Ask your lecturer what he means by 'receiver'. Is that something more than a simple amplifying stage?

Posting the circuit of what you have would be nice. While not clap switches I have worked with detecting a loud bang to stop a timer function. We just used an amplifier off our sensor with adjustable gain.
