Hi, I am currently planning to design a kind of a key finding device where if someone pushes a button on a small remote, an alarm goes off on a key fob.

I just need to know what kind of wireless solution to use. I am thinking of using a 315MHz or 434MHz RF transmitter/receiver combo. We just need to keep in mind that it should be low power, with at least 50m - 100m of range outside. The project is for school.

The things I'm worrying about is the power consumption on both ends, and external noise that might trigger a false alarm. Can anyone recommend a product?

try this site http://www.rentron.com/PicBasic/RemoteControl.htm they specialize in exactly what you are looking for, pre made low power RF modules in the freq. you specified...

In order to get the most reliability from the rf modules is to use encoder/decoders with them....
