Cheap GPS IC

    Hey guys,

    Does anyone know of any cheap, not too accurate, GPS IC that spits out absolute location data ? ( no need for speed or any other info )

    You might find what you want on the "Sparkfun" website. Their GPS modules run $50 to $90 for the most part.

    Is that the cheapest they get for such a size? I mean, are GPS chips generally that expensive?

    Digikey has a spiffy one for about $150.00. But you didn't want extreme accuracy or bells & whistles.

    Remember, you've got a 12-channel or 20-channel receiver, a pre-programmed uProcessor, and possibly even a pretty darn impressive antenna all in a box an ammeter magician could make disappear. The only way such a combination comes cheap is if you order obscene quantities at a time.

    I saw a GPS IC module for sale in Fry's the other night for $79.99 I'd say it was 2''x2''x1''
