This is from a 5.1 surround sound system amp that I took apart. What do you guys think is the brown stuff that's all over the PCB? Also what kind of caps (if they are) are those black caps type components???

 

The black cylinderical objects are probably Inductors. The brown goo is a glue to hold companents in place.

 

Is the unit working?

 

No it stays ON for 2 seconds then shuts off. I assume it's something related to the power supply. But I just opened it to see what's inside. There's a nice trafo and 3 tda8920th
