some sort of motor for lock

i will be using avr studios

 

The processor will do the job - I have no idea whether AVR Studio will as I have never used it.

Depends on the motor If it's a DC Geared Motor, that won't work. What type of motor in the lock mechanism are you considering? You need to match the controller to the lock mechanism.

I have the same lock and motor controller shown here. im just planning on adding a keypad and using AVR studio instead of Arduino board

The linked article clearly states how to control the lock. It doesn't appear to require a separate controller. I don't understand your statement about using AVR Studio instead of an Arduino board. One is a software development tool. The other is hardware.

AVR Studio is an IDE/IDP, not a board.

 

It is the 2nd time I have seen people mentioning avr studio over the last week or so. Avr studio is a real thing but very few people know it or still use it, as it is very short lived.

I think she or he was saying that instead of the arduino idea she or he is using avr studio to program the chip. When in fact he can use the arduino idea to program an avr chip as well.
