    Can anyone identify this piece of substation equipment?

    It looks like a neutral displacement relay. There is a company called ALSTOM that makes them, I believe.

    Cracking. It was made by GEC, a company taken over by Alstom of course.

    I have a similar looking widget....it's a Western Electric telegraph word counter. Has a few ratchet and release solenoids and such.
