calculation of power factor

    hello every one
    i am doing a project for correcting power factor by switching on or off capacitor banks with 8051 microcontroller .but i dont know how to calculate power factor. can some one help me on this

    power factor = apparent power /real power.
    power factor = vi cos@/vi.
    i think we can get apparent power by multiplying voltage and current in the circuit. but i don't know how to measure real power. can you help me?

    You need to find a "True Power" meter for AC.
