Calculate resolution and reference voltage for a ADC

    If I has a LVDT giving output voltages for 7 measurements from 1 t0 7 as 80, 160,...,560 (7 values) in 80mV steps how should I calculate the required resolution and the reference voltage?

    From what I understood so far as I have to measure a range from 0 - 560 mV

    VRef = 560+80 = 640
    Assuming a 8-bit ADC is used,
    Step Size = 640/2^8 = 2.5 mV

    Is this correct?

    That should work to give you good resolution for the number of bits you have.
