Calculate inductor value

Hi guys,

Pretty n00b to a lot of this stuff. I came across a laptop computer the other day with a choke on the inside (straight after DC). I began to look at the chokes on other laptops I had lying around. Some are beads, some are cylanders with the center drilled out and the wire passes through the center.

I would like to know how to calculate the Inductor values of some of these chokes with some sort of basic circuit.

I have a scope but not a signal generator - my searches on this forum makes me think I will need a signal generator.

I know its made of material 44.

I also think that I might be able to calculate the henries based on the physical properties of the choke? length, OD/ID diameter, material etc.

Cheers in advance,

-Al
