IMO.. 140 illegal workers isn't even close to what VW did..
Not sure why they needed to go to Croatia,etc.. for illegal workers when they are all over California already..

99% of companies/governments cut corners somewhere.. some get caught.. most don't..

Because most of the illegal workers were actually mechanical / electronical engineers that couldn't find any work so they accepted anything they got offered. They would rather hire an engineer and pay him the same as a guy with barely high school finished.

That could be a big problem for Musk if he loses his darling status with the bureaucrats that fund him. Those same bureaucrats serve at the pleasure of the unions that put them in office, and the unions are hopping mad now. If Tesla just has to pay fines, they'll probably be OK. If they are forced to become a union shop going forward, that could be a problem.

Politicians will have to play this carefully. Many won't want to go on record as being against the B1 visa program, and therefore "anti immigrant". They may make the calculation that the union vote won't jump party no matter what crap they are forced to eat.

Issues at another of Musk's businesses that rely on government funding.

I live in the San Francisco area and I'm all too familiar with Tesla's political connections and how they have contributed to a false picture of the company's success.

Obama has visited San Francisco 24 times and Hillary has been here 5 times to "fund raise" -IE- pay off politicians in return for getting big $$$ from Washington. The regions purported booming economy is largely attributed to a continuous flood of government money rather than real productivity.

Tesla is one of many politically connected firms in the region that's living off the government dole and I'm waiting for it to crash and burn -and blow a crater in the stock market.
