Anyone have a recommendation for a improved replacement for the LM386?
8-pin DIP (don't care about pin for pin compatible)
external gain-set is OK
low-voltage (<24V) single-supply

I could go through "all the usual suspects" (manufactures), but thought someone might have a favorite to tought.

Well, take a look at this:

Still an 8-pin DIP, 1.8w out.

 

The packages for the LM4951 are tiny surface-mount and micro-surface-mount with "bumps".
They get extremely hot at 1.8W.

 

Boy oh boy, I must've been asleep when I looked at that. 10 pin SMD instead of 8 pin DIP.
