Battery Powered Strain Gauge Setup

We need to cheaply implement a wireless strain gauge setup in full-bridge configuration... i have been wondering if battery powered power supplies can provide a steady enough voltage?
The options we have (as i see it anyway) are:
-adding a cheap voltage regulator... (but i'm not sure if this would be good enough)
-reading the bridge input voltage and process it with the bridge output to scale the output according to the input.

Ideas/suggestions?

Thanks :D

Yip shouldn't be to many problems. I've done something similar. I used a 12V motorbike battery with a 8V excitation into the gages. Don't used a cheap 8volt reg. I found them to be a issue. My system wasn't looking for a huge resoluation 0 500kg in 5kg res. This was feed into a AT mega after a few Op-amps and into a rs232 wireless modem from sparksfun website.
PS keep the modem away from the gage lines
Have fun,Cheers
