I think that this is finally the complete package: Changed from C555 to a 74HC132. Propose using 4 C NiMH cells for capacity & flat discharge; a limited V regulation is provided via U7 & R8. The nominal 5V is boosted with a V doubler adding about 3 V , giving 8 V before regulated to 7V. When doubler is off, V out is still 5V - 2 diode drops, so 3 LEDs in series are used so that they are dark when doubler is off. Dimming is done by adding a 910 Ω [ could even be larger ] in series with LEDs & then bypassing it with U6 under control of PIR. U1-1 is available to inhibit flashing by returning it to gnd. or to Vcc, or pin 2, for flashing. The Day- Night ckt. inhibits doubler in day, enables at night.
Current drain: On full time = 95 ma, flashing = 23 mA, dim on =9 mA, flashing = 3.5 mA, off = 1.5 mA. Assuming 3 hours bright / night:
Day = 180 mAh
Bright =2070 mAh
Dim = 945 mAh
Total for 30 days then = 3195 mAh. Good C's maybe 6,000 mAh?
