I am engineering student and have an idea to implement a system that will detect number of people in a room and if no person is present in the room it will automatically switch off all the lights and fans.

I wanted some guidelines to start working on it please suggest links/videos or valuable suggestions.

 

Use a lighting PIR occupancy detector.
