    Hello,

I am looking for a free GNU/Linux distro that I can install in VMWare and use to write BASH scripts, would anybody happen to have a suggestion or a helpful link to one? Thanks!

    Hello,

At distrowatch you have an overview of all linux tastes:

There are some very small linux systems that might meet your requirements like puppy linux and damn small linux.

You might also take a look at the live CD list:

Very cool, thank you much! There really are a lot of different flavors of Linux out there.

If you are very new to Linux I would personally recommend Ubuntu. It is very friendly to users new to Linux, and has a huge following and has quickly become one of the most popular Linux distributions. And to add to that, the new release looks pretty slick ;).

AFAIK, installing VMWare is pretty much the same on any Linux distribution that will support it.
