Any good resources on op-amps and applications of op-amps?

Hi there,
I've got an assignment that desperately needs doing consisting of the use of op-amps for low-light level detection system. I'm a bit confused on where to begin, so I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction with some resources on op-amps and some useful examples of there applications.
