In Amsterdam last year used two in sequence with two long postcards for loong message to my daughter at Richmond uni at the moment. It made more for a funny thing than nothing.
When still going at sea satellite was not for voice and writing some tens of letters in 6 or 10 months was common for me. Otherwise through coast radio stations if propagation and own schedule allowed.
