Hello, A friend has given me a sound system kit (fits into backpack) to look at, it comprises of a MP3 Player, battery powered amplifier, and two 8W (8ohm) speakers.

The system worked fine (bought new a year ago) but now the sound from the speakers when connected through the amp is poor (buzzing and humming) but when connected to the MP3 direct the sound is clear but obviously quieter.

Is the amp faulty or are the speakers damaged and it only shows when the higher power from the amp is connected.

My electronic knowlege is basic, any advice on what to check would be appreciated.....

Sounds like some bad connections have developed. If you're using jacks to connect this arrangement that would be the first place I'd check.
