Have NAD 1700 preamp/tuner and NAD 2200 power amplifier....sound cuts in and out... took it to a repair shop... tested and put a new volume pot and a new balance pot... still doesn't work... the stereo is approx 18 years old.... I kinda think it's the electrolytic capacitors in the power amp need replacing.... I'm in Canada... there was no local NAD dealer so I took it to a small shop and I'm not sure he knows what he is doing...the should cuts out when you play with the volume control on the preamp... (head phones worked perfectly well when plugged into the preamp).. there could have been no fault with the pots....any advice? cheers, Mike

Most likely the input selector switch is worn out, it could also be bad solder joints, go over the board and look for joints that look cracked.

Failing capacitors doesent cause sound to intermittently cut out, just hum and noise.
