As expected, it was most probably a false alarm. Although the lack of radio signals does not entirely rule out the existence of a civilization... who knows, maybe there are other more efficient forms of communication?

I saw some of this Church of the Sub-genius stuff in the 1970's and thought it was strictly from the world of comic books. Am I right? No physical manifestation of a church building? No meetings, no permits, no paperwork for the government?o_O

I might be looking stupid here, but I had the same first impression of The Church of Scientology, and now, they're all over the place!:eek:

They admit it's a parody or comic relief as a "insane bogus UFO mind-control cult". R. Crumb did a lot of sub-genius stuff.
