Ac circuits using complex numbers

Hello everybody hope you can help.

I am doing an electrical problem where it says there are 2 components in parallel.
It says the first can be modeled as -j12 ohms and the second can be modeled as 20 ohms.

I want to use the product over sum calculation to work out the modulus and phase angle

Can I take the first component to be 0-j12 and the second to be 20+j0?

yes. That is what we call impedance. Impedances in parallel add up like parallel resistors, in series they add up like series resistors. Xcept ofcourse that we are talking about complex numbers here.
