    A question for experts!

Very long back I was asked a question in college. Can we realise a 16-bit DAC with two 8-bit DACs? I was allowed to use OPAMPs and disctreats.

I had solved this by connecting the output of 8-bit DACs to weighted adder to get equivalent analogue voltage.

On the same lines Prof. asked me to realise 16 bit ADC. I couldn't solve. then he solved this. I was very surprised. All I could remember is that solution was very effective in terms of no. of components etc.

But I don't remember the answer now. Does anybody know the answer?

Hint, one is 512X the gain of the other.
