Most R/C cars will run from 150ft away without a problem. I've run mine up and down a 3 block span, which is 450 ft in each direction, though it does get very difficult to see what it is doing once you get past 100yds.
I 'd say that you need something decent for that. I 've had some RC cars in the years past, all under 100euros worth. They would lose reception after 15-20m or so.
Any decent real RC car (not the cheap crap you buy at radioshack) should have NO problems working at those distances.. Like thatoneguy said and i have one too.. that will work as far as you can see with your eyes. There are even devices you can add on to the car and controller to give a visual indication of signal strength so you know when to turn around before it goes out of control.
