Hi there i wanted to build a digital clock for this purpose i used 8051 and multiplexed 7 segments achieve results but unfortunately i'm not able to built circuit to programme on. any suggestion if i directly connect 7 segment multiplexed or through inverter?

 

use a transistor BC547 to multiplex the seven segment. I tried it a while ago but i was not successful. I think it was the fault of my simulation software proteus because everybody else was successful by following exactly the same steps.

 

Which 8051 are you using? The port may not provide sufficient drive for the LED. You can use a ULN2803 transistor array to buffer between the I/O and the LED.

 

Actually i tried transistors but i was confused the values of resistors to use. i think using buffer is good option
