hi
i have got 3 spare gates on a 6 x single input schmit, and need a single threshold c0mparator, can it be done?
would seem plausable as they presumably have a trigger point, but a search has come up with nothing.so it seems not.

That's a hex Schmitt-trigger inverter. If you need lots of hysteresis, it might work as a comparator.

They have internal thresholds for high and low input levels, but your mileage may vary between batches of ICs and manufacturers. Very basically, once a threshold is exceeded, either high or low, the output changes states, and stays that way until the other threshold is passed, where the output changes to the other state.

thanks sgt,

i'll try rigging something up with the schmitt later and get back,
i suppose i should rethink my circuit and use an ic that one gate will double as a comparator ,rather than the other way round, i dont really want to add another chip,

thanks again
