555 used to switch off remote outlet

Hello everyone.
I will first explain what I am doing. I modified a remote control outlet to act as a switch to start a sequence on an Arduino microcontroller. This works great. The remote has an "on" and "off" button, two seperate momentary tact switches. I would like to only have to press the on button, which would then activate the off button so I don't have to press both (it's just a nuisance, really). The remote uses a 12 volt battery. Will a 555 do the job in monostable mode? If so, I just don't understand how I would integrate the two switches into the design. Any help or other ideas will be greatly appreciated! (transistor???)

Thanks
Derek
