    Hi All,
I am a newb and just getting started in electronics.
I am working on an electric boat with a nominal battery pack voltage of 36v. The problem I have is one of the gauges...an Hour meter...runs on 12/24 volts. I am sure this gauge uses less than 1 Amp can I just use a resistor or do I need a whole voltage regulator.
    Thanks!

Only if you know the resistance of the gauge, and only if the resistance of the gauge is constant. Otherwise, you'll have to spend a whole whopping quarter on that regulator!

Could put a 12V zener diode in series with meter & 36V, 5W?, good for about 400mA.
