2X16 LCD "how to check"

Hi every one ,
kindly i used LCD in my project but before i use it i just want to confirm that the LCD didn't damage ,can one help me to check that

LCD contains 16 pins

i tried to apply +5V to pin2 and GND to pin1 but no sign is that mean that LCD damaged or there is another way to check it

You'll need ground on the contrast aswell (pin 3)

The only way of testing that I can think of is to find a working system with a working LCD and substituting in the suspect LCD.

Yes, the LCD display needs something to display. Connecting the power and constrast wires won't display anything. Unless the LCD have a self test button.

Do you have model number or something...?
