Looking for a circuit that will output the 24 Vac incoming voltage 2 times a second.

The idea is to make the solenoid plunger in an irrigation valve "chatter" in situations where the valve is buried and unable to be visually seen.

The inrush current would be 500mA.

Would a 555 circuit work or is the voltage to high?

EDIT: The incoming voltage could be rectified to give a DC output

You could use a 555 timer but you would need to use a regulator to reduce the rectified 24VAC (which gives about 33VDC) to no more than 15V output (18V max. for the 555). The 555 could drive a SSR (Solid State Relay) to control the 24VAC voltage to the valve.

    Is this just for testing?

Then just get a 24vac repeat cycle timer or multi-function timer.

    No other parts needed.

The output relay wouldn't last long term.

    Dc one shown. Ac available.
