ok I wired up a fractional hp motor 3/4 hp 1725 rpm.
nine wires wired for low power mode 4,5,6 tied together
1 and 7 tied to L1, 2 and 8 tied to L2 , 3 and 9 tied to L3. Turn on the power and the motor began to smoke brand new out of the box . What the heck did I do wrong? So I verified 220 between any two legs good. Then 120 volts to ground all three legs good. What am I missing here? I'm feelin kinda stupid right now about this and my boss is looking at me funny. I must have been asleep that day in school. Please someone help me learn this the right way I must have forgot something?

 

are you dealing with a wye connection or delta?if you have a delta connection you have to have the high leg on line two I think

 

why you getting 220 between phases?
