    hi all
    i have posted this thread
    http://forum.allaboutcircuits.com/showthread.php?t=76493
and was advised to post anew thread to ask about a safe way to drive my 180V 3hp dc motor (speed control only)

i been googling this issue for a while and i think there is 3 solutions : pwm drive , scr based drive or adjustable smps drive
i donot know which one is better in this case
    any suggestions pleas?

Pwm is far more efficient, and better for voltage control at lower speeds with high torque.

    thanks dav
don't you think 308v isto high for 180v motor even if it is pulsed?

no as it will be the average voltage across the motor, pwm frequency would be around 10 to 20 khz
