12 years to build a flight simulator, but apparently well worth it:

What I find most amazing about this project is that its creator did NOT use off-the-shelf software such as Microsoft Flight Sim or Project Magenta for the environment and instrument interface, with PMDG 737 for aircraft modeling and systems.

This guy went the whole hog and programmed it all from scratch. It takes a consummate code-meister to successfully pull that off fer sure.

I've always dreamed of doing precisely what this guy has done, but the engineering and software expertise involved is way out of my league, even if I ever do find a mothballed jet from which to salvage a nose section.
