Venn diagram vs Euler diagram

The section of the AAC ebook introducing Karnaugh mapping talks about Venn diagrams, but many of the diagrams are actually just Euler diagrams. Venn diagrams contain all (2^n) of the combinations of the involved sets. Euler diagrams are more general, containing arbitrary set intersections, and are actually what is used in many of the diagrams in that section of the book.

I was not aware of that distinction. I admit that I, too, had been taught in school only about Venn diagrams as a generic term.

Do you mean that in order to call a set diagram "Venn", you must depict all of its possible combinations?

To be honest, I have been taught Euler diagrams as Venn diagrams. In that aspect, Venn diagrams aren't that useful, and I think pretty much everybody uses them in that, incomplete, way.

However, in the name of correctness, we could make that change.
