New FM antenna for HD Receiver

Installed a Turnstile antenna about 5 ft above the roof yesterday for HD FM Radio reception. Antennacraft FMSS with 75 feet of RG6 feedline.
Guess it is working as the first station I ran across was WBNZ 92.3 FM.
Station is located in Traverse City, Michigan. (South West transmission to Milwaukee)
I would have been happy with 30 mile reception.
170 miles is even better !!

Hope it it's not a transmission fluke, but same reception for 2 days now.


I suppose a clear path across Lake Michigan helps, but I'm still surprised that it works at this distance.

Are you into amature radio (Ham)?

It may seem odd, but the coax is probably more important than the antenna, RG6 has much better characteristics.

Yes! Since 1963 - W9ZO
All of my antenna's for Ham are wire - no beams.

I orignally was going to use some RG59 but as long as I had to do some wire fishing, I figured why not just do it right. I didn't have any coax handy and the price difference wasn't much.
RG6 definitely better.
